Domain questions, answered
If a name shows as available, is it mine?
Not quite yet. The search asks the registry, and we check again when you place your order, but a name is only yours once the registration is complete. If someone else registers it first, or the registry won't release it, we let you know and refund what you paid for it.
What are premium and reserved names?
Registries hold some names back (reserved) or sell them at a much higher price (premium). A search can't always tell them apart from free names, so they may show as available. If a name you order turns out to be premium or reserved, we contact you before going any further.
What happens if I don't renew a domain?
We send reminders before it expires and, with auto-renew on, a renewal invoice in good time. If it does expire, your website and email stop working, but you can still renew it at the normal price during the grace period. After that it enters redemption: it can still be restored for a while, with a restore fee on top of the renewal. Once redemption ends, the registry releases the name and anyone can register it.
How do I transfer a domain to you?
Unlock the domain at your current registrar and ask it for the transfer code (also called the auth or EPP code). Then order the transfer here with that code. The registry may email the domain owner to approve the move, so keep an eye on that inbox. A domain that was registered, transferred or changed owner in the last 60 days can't move yet.
Where do I manage DNS and email?
In your hosting control panel when the domain uses our hosting nameservers, or at your DNS provider (such as Cloudflare) when you point it there. You choose the nameservers in your client area; we don't offer a separate DNS editor, email forwarding or URL forwarding for domain-only orders.
Is my personal information public?
The owner details you give us go to the registry, as every domain needs a contactable owner. Most registries hide personal details from public lookups, and where an extension offers privacy protection you can add it when you order. A few extensions don't allow privacy at all.
Can I keep a domain I registered elsewhere?
Yes. Add it to your client area to get expiry reminders and health checks while it stays with its current registrar, or transfer it to us whenever you're ready.
Need a hand with your name and setup?
Tell us about your project. We'll help you pick a domain, connect it to your hosting, and set up DNS and email so everything just works.
